Welcome

The Learn Jainism website can help you learn more about the ancient Indian faith of Jainism. You will find online activities, pictures that you can use at home or in the classroom, places to visit, videos and much more.

To help with the teaching of Jainism we have created a special section and an exciting resource box to make classes on Jainism fun. Other teaching resources include lesson plans that also give teachers pointers on preparation and help meet the aims of the Key Stages, and several videos offering tips on using the resources in the classroom. We have produced teachers’ notes created to work alongside the books in the Learn Jainism series. These in turn are linked to several interactive puzzles and games on this website. All have been designed to meet UK National Curriculum guidelines on religious education.

Enjoy discovering Jainism!

Primer of Jain Principles

We are pleased to announce the addition of a new reference book to our resource library.

Jain scriputral literature is replete with technical words which are not listed in most general purpose dictionaries. To complicate the matter further, some of these technical words are identical to those in daily conversational usage but with totally different meanings.

We believe that this new addition, Primer of Jain Principles will become an essential tool for students of Jain philosophy not only as a dictionary and but also as a reference book.

We are grateful to Dr Kirit Gosalia MD of Phoenix, Arizona, USA for, both providing us with the electronic version of his English translation of the original Hindi work by Pundit Gopaldashji Baraiya and allowing us to upload it on to our web site. Pundit Baraiya’s brief introduction is included in the introductory pages of the web book .

It is our sincere hope that this reference material will prove to be of interest and more importantly will prove to be useful in improving the understanding of Jain philosophy.
